If the filesystem is already mounted at a-certain-place, do this:
  mount a-certain-place -o remount,rw
If it ain't yet mounted, then the normal mount command should do it:
  mount /mnt/whatever
If recent versions of Knoppix are mounting RO, then change the last line
to:
  mount /mnt/whatever -o rw
