On my aDSL (Qwest home) line it takes about 2.5 - 3.0 hours to download
an .iso image ---- if everything is working at max efficiency. So the
download speeds are around 64 kBs. But there are times when it says 999
hours .....

Still, I consider myself lucky. A telephone line repairmen told me that
many parts of the greater Denver area are lucky to have 28.8 dialup, and
will never get any better because of the quality of the lines. And other
areas, like the one where my son used to live were fiber-optic for the
last mile, so no DSL for him either, ever. He had to go to satellite uplink.

This must explain the increasing popularity of cable modem, as almost
everywhere now has cable TV.
