[CLUE-Tech] digital camcorder to DVD via firewire

Hello,

I'd like to second the recommendation of kino. In
fact, I use the capture feature inside of kino instead
of dvgrab. I have had quite good luck creating DVD
compatible mpeg files with kino and then burning them
onto DVD. Originally, I would do all the steps except
the authoring and burning on linux, but recently have
had luck authoring and burning in linux. I use kino,
mjpegtools, dvdauthor, and growisofs (all have links
on freshmeat, I believe).

There have been quite a few gotchas along the way.
Some hints:

- make sure your DVD writer has the latest firmware
- make sure your authoring and burning sw on windows
has latest patches
- if you're using linux and DVD+RW, use growisofs
instead of dvdauthor. I spent months trying to figure
this out.
- set things up so that the modules are probed in this
order:
     ieee1394
     raw1394
     ohci1394
     video1394

I also found "gscanbus" to be helpful in running down
firewire problems.

Let me know if you want details on any of this.

Eric
