gnome-desktop-environment is also a virtual package, another thing to
be aware of, is that some packages have or choices, for instance with
this one, it's epiphany, or galeon, or firefox.  If you remove one, you
have to install one of the others first (or at the same time) to keep
the dependant package.

http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages can give you a good idea of what
all the dependencies are, and what is included with each package (to
determine if they are just a virtual package).
