Did both browsers display the image?

You're looking at what your server thinks is important about the 
request, not the request itself.  For all practical purposes these 
requests are the same yet the server responds differently--either you 
arent' seeing something or the server behavior is more complex than it 
could be.  And it isn't the slashdot server you're trying to 
troubleshoot.  So I don't think this tells you anything.  Use ethereal.

And you might consider comparing with a dump from your home machine that 
also works.
