[CLUE-Tech] Problems with FTP over SSH

I administer a couple of servers which I keep with the same
configuration. Magically, the other day, one of the servers stopped
allowing me to use FTP over SSH properly. I can get in, change
directory, etc. But whenever I try to upload a file, I end up with a
file with zero bytes. Something's screwy with the transfer connection.
The other server still works fine.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
Here is an example of what is happening from /var/log/secure:
Sep 3 11:36:28 web1 sshd[16395]: Accepted password for kelsey from
68.69.9.60 port 2102 ssh2
Sep 3 11:36:28 web1 xinetd[698]: START: ftp pid=16396 from=127.0.0.1
Sep 3 11:38:05 web1 sshd[16410]: Accepted password for kelsey from
68.69.9.60 port 2104 ssh2
Sep 3 11:38:05 web1 xinetd[698]: START: ftp pid=16411 from=127.0.0.1
