I have to agree with your rant 100%. I almost replied when I saw the
answers, but I really didn't have anything to contribute to the actual
question.

Yes, we as a local group should/could do better than these irritating responses!

I, for one, have no problem with spoon feeding answers if I know them.
A lot of my knowledge over the years has been gained by asking dumb
questions until I get a response.

The responses you got (except for the potentially helpful pointer to
FC4) were the typical but weak go-away-and-rtfm answers I would expect
from Debian users (one of the reasons I avoid that group). I hope we
as a local group and Linux in general can do better than that.

Just a little perspective. One of the user groups that I've subscribed
to for many years is linux-users (originally caldera users only). Back
in the early days, the type of irritating responses you got were
pretty typical, and newbie roastings were a favorite game, but the
group has matured with the years and now you get decent answers to
this type of question. Go we and do likewise.
