I was going to mention that. We use LVM on all our RH9 systems, and it
works great, but there is a caveat. RedHat in their infinite wisdom
went with LVM2 for the FC3/RHEL4 (and of course CentOS4) series
w=i=t=h-o=u=t bothering to provide a utility to shrink an ext3 logical
volume !!!

So, it depends on your release and vendor.
