[clue-tech] Ubuntu crontab

I'd like to know why the scripts in /etc/cron.daily are not executing,
or don't appear to be.  /etc/crontab contains:
SHELL=/bin/sh
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
17 *    * * *   root    run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly
25 8    * * *   root    run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily
47 8    * * 7   root    run-parts --report /etc/cron.weekly
52 8    1 * *   root    run-parts --report /etc/cron.monthly

I can see in /var/log/syslog entries for:
Feb 25 09:17:01 localhost /USR/SBIN/CRON[30688]: (root) CMD (
run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly)
but nothing for cron.daily.

$ ll /etc/cron.daily
