My script is not generic.  I write one, individually, for each system I 
want to backup.  Additionally, I only back up configuration files.  In 
effect, my bash script is nothing more than a long series of cp commands 
followed by a gzip and a final cp to copy the resulting zip file off-host.

It's not that cool and is tedious to maintain.  That's why I want to see 
the Perl version.  :)
