I had an odd problem with my router just last week. It stopped talking
with the cable modem. All my equipment was blocked from the Internet.

I was able to plug the modem directly into my PC and prove it wasn't a
cable modem issue. I ended up having to go buy a new router.

At that point I became acutely aware at how much stuff I own that needs an
Internet connection. It was most irritating; I was on the PC at the moment
the router died.
