interesting, RAID is beginning to sound like overkill (work wise).

Stupid me - mb doesn't have onboard video - that's why I had to add the
card.

I looked around a bit, and found this recent thread on another LUG,

If you have to, then go ahead and use the HW RAID, but from the reviews
I've read (last year), SW RAID is better.

I checked out your MB on the linux compatibility web page, it says the
video passed.
