For me it recommended Gentoo and Slackware.  I believe the "what type of 
packages" question steered the response toward these.

I've always run RedHat/Mandrake/Fedora distributions but have started 
working with Debian Woody and Debian Sarge lately to become familar with 
Debian's way of doing things.
