I believe that's actually UW IMAP under the hood..  You'd probably have
much better luck with a modern IMAP/POP server that allows for mailbox
access by multiple simultaneous clients.  I'd highly recommend migrating
to Dovecot (www.dovecot.org).  It's more secure, flexible and orders of
magnitude faster in my experience.
