Just discovered this on my kubuntu

I had an hp2575 multifunction printer connected via ethernet working
fine via cups, but the hp-toolbox lets me use the scanner too...  also
gets the gimp to scan through xscanimage

The trick was to run hp-setup <ip-address> ... and let it set things
up, then hp-toolbox gives you a nice gui for access to the printer,
scanner and memory slots on the device.
