A bit more detail here? For really basic stuff, i.e. having the Windoze
VM I bring up on occassion read a share on my Linux system, there's no
need for a password. Same for printer shares, last time I had one
running.

The thing is to set 'security = SHARE' in smb.conf. Not sure, but I think
that can go in either the global section, or apply to selectively to any
share where desired.

I got into doing the authentication thing quite a while ago. I imagine
it's changed a bit. Mucking about with smbpasswd.

Probably the easiest way to keep things synched would be to just use LDAP
for everything.
