OpenWRT will probably do what you want.  The Linksys boxes are more 
constrained than what you want but would probably do.  For $50 it's 
worth a try isn't it?

Newegg has a 32GB for $200, although there are others around what you've 
seen.  But for this box isn't 4-8GB enough?  They have an expresscard 
4GB for $60.
