A Pentium 1. The only distributions that I ever got working on a Pentium 1 (64MB) are DeLi Linux and Vector Linux. Based on the specs, you're probably better off with Puppy Linux. For such a low powered PC, you'll have a hard time running any distribution that has Gnome, KDE, or even XFCE as the desktop environment. Regarding the NICs, it'll be beneficial to know the brand and model ahead of time.

Just looked at the Puppy Linux site, and it appears with the 4.0 release that they made it MUCH easier to install to a hard drive.

Dear Brian,

The laptop is a Pentium 1 and I believe that 128MB is the maximum amount of RAM that it can hold. I have a hard time figuring out KDE and xfce. I have only gotten used to Gnome. I can bring along my paper notebook and take some notes. If you plan to show me stuff on your laptop, then I might not need to bring my own to the meeting. But, you might be able to show me how to get my NICs working. I might need your help downloading the drivers for them. So, I can bring both NICs to the meeting and my flash drive, to transfer the driver without being able to use the internet. My flash drive is only 128MB. Is that large enough to handle NIC drivers?

Louis Miller
