[clue-tech] sidux redux

After our fine, lengthy discussion of sidux a few weeks ago, I came
across an interesting and even lengthier discussion on the sidux forum
that might be of interest to anyone thinking about sidux.

http://www.sidux.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-460-start-0.html

Be forewarned, you'll have to plow through some rather boring posts,
but there are a few gems that are worth the read. It starts off with
the typical whin[g]e: why can't sidux apply upgrades from a gui
session like Ubuntu or [pick a distro]?

In page one, there is an excellent summary by 'h2' (the smxi
maintenance tool developer) of the reasons for requiring maintenance
in a non-X environment (sidux will never be Ubuntu).

In page 2 a fascinating discussion by 'slam' (another developer) how
he maintains over 400 sidux desktop and laptop systems. Never in my
wildest dreams would I have thought this possible, but this guy has
done it and is raking in the bucks! I especially like his system for
grandmas!

In page 3 a followup by 'h2' on the techniques suggested by 'slam. and
security considerations.

Enjoy,
