I was already a little annoyed with whatever was rewriting my 
/etc/resolv.conf file before, but somehow I can get my system into a 
state where it stops doing that.  This thing seems to change any time I 
use network-admin to adjust the connection, and /etc/hosts is much more 
annoying.
