The reason you need a separate hardware profile to run in a VM is that 
Windows loads a motherboard specific driver for the disk drives.  So if 
you move a drive to a different machine it can't be read unless there's 
another profile.

I'm sure they've fixed that in Vista and it detects the right driver at 
run time.  If not there's probably a way to do a hardware profile for it.
