I would say (consistent with your other answers):

An AP is like a switch.  The wireless and wired ports are all on the same LAN segment.  Should be 
all you need to plug into your broadband modem.

A router has ports on different LAN segments.  Your DSL modem that does NAT is like this--an 
internal subnet for your machines, an external one attached to the ISP's gear.

The Linksys WRTG54L is a router.  It has 4 wired ports on the same subnet as wireless and one 
(labeled Internet) that's different.  Normally it does NAT going from wireless to Internet.
