Hi Dennis, 

No, not in IMAP typically.  It only handles mail.

Implementations that want a shared or single-user address book usually require a MUA that can do LDAP, and a separate LDAP server for shared addressing.

(No, I haven't set this up nor had a lot of experience with it... most corporate environments I usually run into have to use their Microsoft LDAP/Active Directory Forest as this "piece" if they're doing any support of native IMAP MUA's other than Outlook.)

Of all the IMAP clients I've tried, most have some way to do LDAP lookups for addresses.  Can't really shed any more light than that.
