Subject: [clue-tech] RSS Parser for any 'P' language

Hi Folks.

Due to not liking the various feed aggregator apps I can find in the
Ubuntu repositories, I'm at the point of looking at writing my own. A
quick web search reveals many many choices, and I'm not conversant enough
on the subject to really evaluate one vs. the other anyway. But it seems
I might soon become so.

I'm about equally rusty in PHP and Perl, and haven't written any Python,
so there's maybe not a lot to recommend one language over the other -- I
think I can pick up Python quickly enough if I have a need to (despite
syntactically significant whitespace [shudder]).

What I do want is support for all flavors of RSS, and Atom. I want
something that does as much of the work for me as possible, and I want it
to be very tolerant of glitchy feeds.

Mark Pilgrim's Universal Feed Parser seems to be the one I hear most
about. Maybe that's why I think Python is the way to go. But if there are
good libraries for Perl or PHP, I'd like to know what people recommend.

Ok, so we should be thinking of a lovable, cuddly, stuffed penguin
sitting down after having gorged itself on herring. Still with me?
