Hi, as you know, I installed Gentoo on one of my desktops, and it went
pretty smoothly. So, I thought that I would install it on my laptop
and it would go faster because I had already been through it once.
I've emerged xorg-server and kde-meta successfully. However, when I
type startx, the screen goes black for a second, then it gives me an
error and goes back to the command line. My laptop is a Toshiba
Satellite L15-S104 with an Intel 852GM AGP graphics chip. Therefore,
in my make.conf file, the VIDEO_CARDS="intel". Also, I followed the
instructions on
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Intel_GMA#Kernel_Modesetting and
configured my kernel with:
Device Drivers --->
Graphics support --->
...
<*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI
support) --->
<M> Intel 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G (i915 driver) --->
<M> i915 driver
[*] Enable modesetting on intel by default
and emerged the xf86-video-intel drivers. In /etc/conf.d/xdm the
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm". I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've
recompiled my kernel several times to try to get it to work, and
Google isn't much help with this problem. Below is a copy of the
output when I type startx. Any advice is welcome.
