[clue-tech] Gentoo Xserver Error

Thanks for the advice, June. So, I automatically generated a
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file by typing Xorg -configure. Under the Section
"ServerLayout", I changed Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 to Screen "Screen0"
since I was getting a Fatal server error: no screens found (see
discussion at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-distributions-5/fatal-server-error-no-screens-found-in-gentoo-515912/
). Also, according to http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml,
the xorg-x11 meta package (with everything) and the lighter
xorg-server package are functionally equivalent on desktop systems.
So, should I still look for an install additional xorg packages? Now
when I type startx, the screen goes completely black and it won't
respond to cntr+alt+backspace or cntr+alt+del and I have to hold the
power button down for 5 sec. to turn off my laptop. I haven't yet
tried configuring the xserver using HAL as suggested on the gentoo
xorg-config page because I'm not sure if I'll do it correctly or if
this is necessary. I made the output of startx go to a log file, and
here's a copy of it. Where should I go from here? (BTW, on my working
gentoo desktop, when I type startx it goes straight into kde-4, and
I'm trying for the same behavior on my laptop-- kde-meta already
emerged).
