I was trying to set up my WLAN device to my home lan but in the process
the WLAN device has disappeared altogether.
I have a Dell laptop 1721 AMD64x2 with a Dell 1505 wlan card
(pre-release n protocol)
I don't think there is a good open source driver for this card so I had
been trying to use the drivers from windows using ndiswrapper.
In my attempts though, the WLAN device itself seems to have disappeared
as I can't even manually address the device.
I picked up Suse 11.2 at the recent install-fest and installed it last
weekend.
I had had several divfferent versions of the windows driver and have
been trying them all with no joy.
The laptop has a Wifi light that was on when I started the process, but
it doesn't light at all now.
Any good advice as to how to get my device back so I can get this
configured? I remember I had to jump through some hoops to get it
working on Suse 11.1 and also 10.2. I think I messed something up when I
was fishing for the right driver.
"ip link set wlan0 up" reports "Cannot find device "nlan0""
"ip link" reports 3 devices lo, eth0 and br0
"iwconfig" reports the same three devices each saying there are no
wireless extensions
TIA,
Chris
