I know this doesn't really answer your question, but for what it's worth 
I run VMware with CentOS 5.3 on AMD x86_64 multicore and it's GREAT. I 
have not tried VMware under the other distributions, but I even run 
Ubuntu in a VM as well as several other VMs on that platform. :)
