[clue-tech] mutt & gmail

Has anyone successfully configured Mutt to work with gmail?  I've been
following the directions here:
http://lifehacker.com/5574557/how-to-use-the-fast-and-powerful-mutt-email-client-with-gmail

But I'm getting allot of lockups and no ability to send - just locks up
completely at "sending mail"  - I've been doing some reading, but from what
I can gather the types of people who use mutt tend to have considerably more
advanced configuration/customization issues, and the IRC channel for it is
completely quiet.
