To get into NT from linux, take a look at VNC. I don't know much
about it but our NT admins seem to be able to pull up a window with another
machine's desktop in it.
<p>Inability to telnet into a linux box as root is a security feature.
Generally you telnet in as a user and su to root. You might also
look for a program called sudo. It lets regular users run commands
as root, but they user their own password (no need to give out the root
password), it logs what they do, and it can restrict them to run only particular
commands.
