> According to the UPS-HOWTO, APC and TrippLite aren't Free-Software > friendly. Anyone know if this is still true? I think APC is talkin'. Also there is a version of PowerChute for Linux, native, if you want to use their software. There is a Free "apcupsd" RPM that I use, which can use smart mode to talk to an APC Smart-UPS. I use several smart-UPS 700s, a couple of smart-UPS 1400s, and a smart-UPS 3000 with the apcupsd. I had to write a set of action scripts to notify someone if there is a problem. (Actually I didn't write them, but I have worked on them since they were written.) I also have a few back-ups UPSes that I made my own cable for, which I use with unipowerd. Incidentally in my experience with apcupsd and a smart-UPS, when the smart-UPS does a self-test a POWER FAILURE condition is triggered and the apcupsd goes ballistic. I added a check in my notification script to see if the last event the UPS logged was a SELF TEST or if it was something else. This solved the false alarm problem, I think. -- Jim Ockers (ockers@ockers.net) Ask me about Linux! Contact info: please see http://www.ockers.net/ Fight Spam!
