Brian;
Just for the sake of reference, could you state what exactly you did to get this adapter up and running? I don't have the adapter, but you never know what I, or others, will come up with.

Thanks!
Russ

Finally got it working. 12 hours is a long time to get a wireless adapter up and running. Rather than search for how-tos for my specific adapter I searched for those with the same chipset and managed to find one.

It turns out ifup/ifdown does more than just ifconfig alone. Also the Networking GUI is sorely lacking in configuration settings. I had to set everything in the /etc/network/interfaces file. Good news though I found out during my research that in Fiesty Fawn they are planning on overhauling the networking---a lofty goal being zeroconf networking. We'll see how far they get.
Subject: [clue-tech] Need Help Installing MN-510 USB Wireless Network Adapter

I got a notebook drive for Christmas, so I'm resurrecting my laptop. I installed Xubuntu 6.10 with minimal fuss. I'm currently trying to get wireless working. The MN-510 is a prism chipset. I've successfully installed the linux-wlan-ng package and created an unencrypted connection to the wireless access point by following the readme provided with the package.

However, I've been unable to get the wireless to automatically connect to the AP after a restart. The readme glosses over what's referred to as hotplug scripts. I do not have a /etc/hotplug/ directory nor do I know where these provided scripts are located as they don't appear to be in /etc/wlan/. Most Google searches end up with people who got as far as I did. Any help would be appreciated.

Meanwhile I'm going to see about using the ndiswrapper method and see if I get further.

Thanks.

Brian

__________________________________________________
Do You Yahoo!?
Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around
