Do you have "Deny TCP connections to Xserver" checked in the Administration->Login Window tool? This is the default and if I remember correctly (fat chance) disables/enables TCP port 6000 for GDM.

Charlie
Thanks Bruce,

This seems reasonable but so far no luck.

On the desktop I run the following:
davidw@atContact-ubuntu:~$ xhost +
access control disabled, clients can connect from any host
davidw@atContact-ubuntu:~$ xhost
On the server (the x-client side) I run:
[davidw@callisto davidw]$ export DISPLAY=192.168.1.133:0.0
[davidw@callisto davidw]$ echo $DISPLAY
So, I must be missing something.
I don't think I have a NAT issue as things work fine when I reboot in Windows, and we are on the same subnet (client and server).
Is there a firewall on Ubuntu? If so how do I configure it and for what port?

Thanks,
