IBM Model M FTW. Type hard or go home! :) There is some company who
bought the plans and tooling to make the Model M keyboards but I can't
remember the name of the company. Probably the <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.modelm.org">www.modelm.org</a> web site
has some pointers or someone on the forums there would know.<br>
<br>
The Model M I'm typing on was made in 1995 and has a blue IBM on grey
background. I bought a lifetime supply (assuming >5 years usage of
each keyboard ha ha) of Model Ms in 1998 when a bank went out of
business or got rid of all their PS/2s so I am not sure where to buy
one but I think it's possible.<br>

<pre wrap="">I'll chime in as a lover of the Model-M. It has a stout, reliable,
durable mechanism. and great tactile and audio feedback. the bigest
issue in a group setting might be the keyboard noise.
I got mine long ago at a used computer store. Looks like they are
still available on ebay and used elsewhere. Most of the ads I looked
at have a ps2 style connector. Not a problem for many systems but
USB offers more flexability. Keep that in mind when looking.
Das Keyboard is another option: <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.daskeyboard.com/">http://www.daskeyboard.com/</a> I've used
one of these briefly. good action and tactile feel. A bit mushier
than the Model-M but still a great keyboard for those who like that
kind of thing.
I'll not say anything bad about the various ergonomic keyboards except
to mention the various non traditional models available:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/">http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/</a> and <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/">http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/</a> to
mention two that seem interesting. I'd be intereested in hearing from
you if you go with something like one of these.

<pre wrap="">Well, you could read the always-informative keyboard threads on Slashdot.

Seems lots of folks like the old IBM model M. But to find one, or it's
equivalent, will set you back a few bucks.
Since it isn't possible for me to go back in time and lay in a stockpile
of the Northgate OmniKey+, I've gotten to the point where I treat
keyboards as disposable items. That said, I typically have good luck with
Logitech, and I'm a touch typist.

Ok, so we should be thinking of a lovable, cuddly, stuffed penguin
sitting down after having gorged itself on herring. Still with me?
