If its possible to get the FCC id number off the back of the device we could
search this site:

http://transition.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/Welcome.html

to get the real specifications. Its an arm device:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)

so there is linux support.

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/234847/the_hp_touchpads_best_feature_is_linux.html

As it already runs linux I would have to speculate a "yes". I currently
operate http://webdt.org <http://webdt.org> and have some experience
hacking linux on to proprietary hardware. Sadly though I do not have a
hundred bucks laying around to play with.

If anyone has interest I have a unique offer. Grab a couple of these and
leave me with one for a small period of time. I will document the steps and
methods taken to install whatever we choose to. With 16gb of space I dare
say anything is possible IF we can get an image to take. Once we have a
product worthy of showing off lets hold a Clue session teaching others (who
have interest) explaining how we did it?

The fact that this device has a 1.3 mp camera and multitouch display this is
a steal of a deal. Applications are numerous from replacing kiosks to low
level vision applications and it even looks decent for personal use. I could
easily see a few of these around ones home controlling wifi lighting
dimmers, entertainment electronics, ip based thermostats, IP camera views,
or even as a front end to another computer.

If I fail I will re image the touchpad with the original operating system
(backed up) and return it to you unscathed. My time will be free as this is
aimed as being a community learning experience.

Any takers?
