[clue] domain names

I'm making a recommendation for decisions makers to consider. I don't know all the relevant facts, and I can't find the email it was mentioned in to make a direct reply (for threading purposes).

The discussion was talking about domain names and how how mailman needs one.

We already have cluedenver.org
If we're doing things right, www.cluedenver.org forwards to that.
Someone suggested that since mailmain needs to be on the same server it serves the archives from, we give it:
mailman.cluedenver.org

I say that means we're publishing the wrong interface. Talk is also going on about replacing mailman, so we clearly don't want "mailman" in the published interface.

mail.cluedenver.org
malinglist.cluedenver.org
malinglists.cluedenver.org
lists.cluedenver.org

Allow us to change the implementing technology, and keep the published URL the same for bookmarks and serving archives. I can't currently find the original article that brought this to my attention many moons ago. But here is a similar one: http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI

I do not know the pros & cons of my suggested names, an even better one may exist. I just don't want someone having to maintain mailman.cluedenver.org 20 years from now if only a few of us remember what mailman even was.
