The Project 
. A clinical decision support system that provides the ability to 
analyze patient information through an event driven interface. 
. Patient records are analyzed with a Pascal-like, procedural, 
domain-specific scripting language, called Boa. This language, for the most 
part, is completed. 
. The Boa scripting language executes alerts via executing templates 
which can send SMTP messages. The Template engine and messaging , for the 
most part, is completed. 
. The Boa scripting language allows the updating of an arbitrary 
number of status "dashboards." The dashboard definition language has not 
been developed. 
. Some Boa scripts will be executed through a web based "forms" 
interface. This is partially completed, as well as a forms definition tool. 
. Boa scripts, in general, will be executed by an Event Manager, which 
aggregates HL7 messages pushed from the hospital IT system. It will mostly 
be concerned with basic ADT, laboratory values, laboratory requests and drug 
start/discontinue messages. The Event Manger builds a virtual patient 
record, analyzes the messages from capture criteria, and executes Boa 
scripts if appropriate. The Event Manager has not been developed. 
. A number of algorithms to aid in clinical decision making, for 
example drug kinetics, have been implemented in Boa. 
. A GUI editor with syntax highlighting for Boa is under development. 

Skill Requirements 
. The system is written entirely in Java 5 and utilizes a web-based 
interface executed under Tomcat. 
. The system uses MySQL 5 for its database engine. There will be 
significant database work required. 
. The existing web pages have been developed using a proprietary 
framework / template technology. This can be changed if deemed appropriate, 
for example with Groovy / Grails. 
. Experience with HL7 messaging would be very useful, but not 
necessary. 
. The developer will work directly with the System Architect to 
complete the design and implementation of the system. 
. The developer will work from their own home / office. Meetings will 
take place in the Cherry Creek Shopping area of Denver (3rd and St. Paul). 
. We believe that the work can be completed in a 3 - 4 month 
timeframe. 
. This can turn into a full time job with company equity.
