"There be the rub...where is the honor?" With all respect, maddog, this
is the cynic's position -- and it may indeed be that, due to personal
experience and perspective, the position becomes ingrained and instinctive.

I am of the persuasion that every man/woman is honest, at least until 
through their overt action, they prove otherwise.  And every man/woman 
deserves my own honesty, transparency, authenticity and respect, which 
must guide my own actions regardless of how they treat me in return. 
It's simply the Golden Rule, applied.

Yes, it appears that, in our ever-more-complex world, that things like 
mutual respect, trust, honor and love of our fellow man/woman are indeed 
"deprecated features."  However, our (my) own actions count for 
something, and I'll endeavor to do right, or at least better, by 
whomever I'm privileged to encounter.  "...honor has the same property 
that faith does."  Thank you, David -- I couldn't have said it better!
