Hey all,

Here is a second job posting for a DBA at McAfee in Denver. I don't know 
a lot about it except we use PostgreSQL, and are looking into several 
NOSQL type of dbs and already use some. We are a SaaS service for Web 
and Email defense and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions 
you have. You'd definitely be working with some cool technology and 
we're looking to do to some massive world-wide scalability using psql 
and some NOSQL technologies like Riak and Mongo.

Database Administrator, (Data Engineer)


Role and Responsibilities

Position Overview
• This position maintains PostgreSQL and EMC Greenplum databases in our 
production environment.
• Documents and maintains consistent and current patches across database 
servers.
• Ensures data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space 
requirements for physical databases are met through formulations and 
monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database 
management.
• Audits the current environments, provides capacity planning and best 
practices for the future, which may include establishing new standards 
and procedures.
• Work occasional nights and weekends to provide 24x7 coverage of a 
mission-critical, operational database environment, fielding calls for 
assistance from Tier-4 Support personnel, and to perform off-hours 
database upgrades and data migration tasks.

Experience
• The ability to work well with minimal supervision, including 
researching answers to questions and problems encountered using a number 
of available resources and tools.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with 
others, especially in an environment that fosters independent thinking 
and problem solving.
• Having the means to take constructive criticism when offered, and to 
provide direction and insight to others who need assistance with SQL and 
other database related tasks.
• At least five years of relational database experience, preferably in a 
professional role that has supported a production environment in any of 
the following technologies: PostgreSQL 8.x / 9.x, MySQL, EMC Greenplum 
MPP, Informix, DB2, Oracle.
• At least five years experience working on a Linux or UNIX based 
platform including Shell programming, with a solid understanding of the 
operating system features required to install, configure and maintain a 
database. Strong troubleshooting skills for related performance and 
operational issues.
• At least five years experience performing routine administration tasks 
such as database monitoring, backups, restores, ad hoc queries, tuning 
and upgrades.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 10% during the year.

Desired Skills
• Experience with Open Source projects and the interaction with these 
types of communities for product assistance and reporting found issues 
(software defects).
• Prior exposure to database replication tools and techniques including 
replicating to read-only standbys and multi-master replicated 
environments across geographically dispersed areas.
• Familiarity with horizontally scaled database technologies to enable 
massively parallel processing (MPP) of loading and querying data such as 
EMC Greenplum, Informix XPS or DB2 pureScale.
• The ability to work in an Agile manner. Prior exposure to the Agile 
methodology of software development which includes iterative 
development, planning meetings and daily standup sessions.
• Familiarity with development tools such as Java, PHP and C/C++ is a plus.
• Familiarity with using source code control systems such as Mercurial, 
Subversion or CVS.
• Having a strong interest in the field of data management with the 
desire to constantly learn new concepts and technologies, including 
key/value NoSQL projects such as Hadoop, MongoDB, Riak, and others.
