I think hostnamectl does those things.

Modify /etc/hostname and
restart. When using DHCP I also put DHCP_HOSTNAME=hostname.foo.com at
the end of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eno1234 or whatever
number your interface is.

So I have a RHEL7 machine and I want "hostname --fqdn" to
return "foo.example.com". Right now it
just returns "foo".
Googling
around suggested setting things in /etc/hosts or /etc/sysconfig/network
but those don't
seem to work. Or is there something I need to
restart after making a change?
