I think hostnamectl does those things.

Modify /etc/hostname and
restart.  When using DHCP I also put DHCP_HOSTNAME=hostname.foo.com at
the end of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eno1234 or whatever
number your interface is.

So I have a RHEL7 machine and I want "hostname --fqdn" to
 return "foo.example.com".  Right now it
just returns "foo".

Googling
 around suggested setting things in /etc/hosts or /etc/sysconfig/network
 but those don't
seem to work.  Or is there something I need to
restart after making a change?

Thanks for the help!

Dave
