Speaking for a lot of folks: there are lots of problems with the way X
determines screen sizes and related stuff, and people seem to spend
man-months guessing when X gets it wrong. Better tips for educated
guessing.

I just discovered that xorg.conf is now xorg.conf.d. I had to create a config file for my video card to get Gnome Shell to work.
