<div>I feel like I can speak with some authority on the subject, given that I've spent a few years fiddling with various iterations of VMware software for the last couple years. We don't have anything open source, unless you count Cloud Foundry, and I'm not even sure what precisely that is. <br>
</div><div><br></div><div>The good news is, your clients VMs will most likely not fail completely. Even when the license expires, it only disables certain key features. I think there's a grace period beyond that, but I'd have to check my notes in regards to which features it disables.</div>

Get the free version of ESXi - it's fairly neutered in terms of compatibility when compared to the licensed version, but it will keep you running in the short term. That way you can just copy your VMs to it and fire them up. My point is, it's probably easier and faster for you to build an ESXi server and copy the VM's over, rather then having to rebuild the VM's by hand.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Now, don't misunderstand me, from skimming the thread, some folks have made some true opensource suggestions, and in the long run, you may absolutely decide you want to convert to a different format, I would not discourage that in the slightest; but I tend to think such conversions are best left for after crisis mode has concluded and there's bandwidth available for longer term projects.</div>

It was explained to me that VMWare’s OpenSource version was free. Now I’m receiving an error that states my Evaluation License is About to Expire. VM’s will cease to work after 38 days. Does anyone know if there is a “Free” OpenSource VMWare program out there (Pirated Doesn’t Count), or a fix for this? </span></p>

They’ll need to walk me through setting up the server and the VM’s until completion. This is time sensitive (about 1 week), and the job goes to the lowest bidder with the most experience that can get it done (onsite) within an acceptable time frame.
