<pre style="font-family: Times; font-size: medium; ">It claims on the latest updates that your card will be supported for openGL 1.2. As most distributions seem to throw the Nouveau driver in instead of Nvidia or a generic driver. I have not played with XFCE in years however I can't discount that that if your nouveau is dated that it could be locking your system up due to incompatibility. </pre>

If you have an old desktop I have a Nvidia Quattro NVS 280 passive, AGP, in my storage shed a few miles away. Would be happy to loan it out to you to see if switching the card or the GPU in the bios helps clear the issue.</pre>
