Hi Dan,

I believe the current plan/idea as far as membership fees is going to be a 25/50/75. Where $25 is student/poor hacker, $50 is standard, and $75 for family. While that isn't solid in stone, its sort of looking like that will be the approx. costs; you can ping me again in a month or so, when this plan solidifies.

The really cool thing about Longmont, is that we are getting a lot of support from the city itself. The city really seems to want us there, and wants to help us; which is great!

I really recommend you follow our groups that I provided earlier, and you will get updates as we progress along; and heck, if you want to join in the fun, you are more than welcome to do that as well.

I would almost guarantee I would be a member of DenHac if I lived closer; just the distance makes it unreasonable for me to go. It would be my dream, that we get a similar group of people to congregate here in Longmont (if they are closer to this area). Right now, I can say, that I'm definitely in the minority of people, as far as interests goes at this Longmont Hackerspace (we are calling it "TinkerMill"). I'm the linux/security admin guy, who likes electronics. From what I've seen so far coming to the meetings, there are a very wide range of people, people that enjoy some of the more artistic stuff/building stuff, some people who want to get their hands on 3d/laser printers and stuff.

All that being said, it is cool that there are people with other interests than mine, but it would be nice if I could convince a few people with similar interests to mine could join as well.

Mike

As you said, super awesome concept, and a lot of neat stuff going on. Unfortunately, I ended up renting a place in Longmont, and the drive between here and DenHac is pretty rough, once you start to consider family and kids, and everything.

A similar situation with the various meetups and LUGs as well. Boulder has a LUG and there is this more Denver-centric LUG. While Boulder isn't too far, I have a tough time attending so many meetups per week; it would be nice to have something in Longmont.

We have several people from DenHac's board helping us with our hackerspace in here, and we're doing our best to build it up. The locations we are looking to stay in are in maybe shadier parts of Longmont, but honestly, I would have no problem with the "shadiest" part of Longmont.

If you're interested in the MeetUp for the hackerspace, we have been using MeetUp to schedule our meetings ( http://www.meetup.com/LongmontHackerSpace/ ) but we're slowly transitioning to the website ( http://www.tinkermill.org/ ) and G+ ( https://plus.google.com/103039872489846452718 ).
Can't afford the member fees and I'll be honest, something about the building/neighborhood doesn't exactly scream inviting to me. I'm not sure how many people are near Longmont; however, I've been a member of this list (and Boulder's) for about 6 months, just because I enjoy watching the linux community in action.

We are planning to potentially put together a linux class.

In future classes, again, depending on the groups interests we can aim for more, or less complexity, maybe something like studying for the LPI/Linux+ exams, or different topics. We have the space at the Longmont Police station from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, but I'm definitely looking at starting the class/group session at 1:00 PM.
