<div dir="ltr">Yes /etc/grub.conf is a symlink to /boot/grub/grub.conf in rhel variants that use bios boot mode. If that link wasn't present or a file was written in /etc then the changes would not apply to file in boot which actually determines how grub boots.<div>
<br></div><div>This configuration is definitely not universal, for instance Ubuntu has a defaults file that you may update variables in, then apply changes using update-grub. UEFI makes it more complicated.</div></div><div class="gmail_extra">
