Linux doesn't have an application for creating PDFs that can be modified and that can modify? That seems strange.

(However, I do PDFs in my virtual box, using Serif PagePlus in Windows. I save directly to the Linux OS. (Publishing is just the one thing I still do in Windows). Then I can really finesse the settings -- like auto fit text, and 11.25 fonts. The virtual box works well, like an single OS with Ubuntu. And as much as I like Evince, Adobe Acrobat Reader does display better and makes a better impression on the readers. So I have to test on Adobe, as that is what most people use.)

On Wed, Apr 1, 2015 at 12:57 PM, Charles W Downing <chuckdowning@earthlink.net> wrote:

If not, consider exporting PDF. They will get a high-fidelity,
but read-only "printed" version of your doc. That's what I do,
most of the time.

If they need to edit your documents, consider using a more
primitive format. Rather than .docx or .xlsx, use .doc, .rtf,
.html, .txt, .tdv and so on. Maximize the ratio of information
to decoration.

Consider having another person, someone that can send documents
everyone can use, originate all the documents, so that you're
editing their format, rather than them editing yours.

I have been a "clue" for about 15 years. I am on a Board
made up of Mac and Windows users. I need to share files
with all of them. However, when I save a LibreOffice Writer
or Calc file as docx or xslx, a couple of them cannot open
it. One of them claims to have Windows 8.x, while the other
has a Mac laptop.

I have spent the better part of today trying various options
to save a file from Calc because of various "default"
permissions settings using umask and other things, as
suggested from Google searchs. Nothing seems to work.

My problem seems to be that I sometimes forget to change the
permissions of a file before I attach it to an e-mail. Even
then, this week, the Mac user has been unable to open a
spreadsheet, possibly because her program has some default
setting.

Help!

Thanks,
