For some context, I've been searching
around for reviews/opinions from time to time (ever since I heard
about Canonical's plans to release their "Ubuntu phone").
Recently, I ran across this:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2953812/operating-systems/kde-unveils-plasma-mobile-a-free-and-open-linux-os-for-phones.html

The idea of also being able to also support Android apps seems to
be an interesting one (I imagine at some point Docker could go on
these things, if it isn't being done already, and support Android
in a container?). But navigating the byzantine world (in the U.S.,
anyway) of plans, providers, unlocking, etc...can be a bit
daunting, I guess, and I don't really have the time these days for
being a full-blown hobbyist smart phone user, although I would
like to do more tinkering outside the realm of ios, so I'm
thinking about jumping to Linux and/or Android...

I don't have that much of a problem doing most things Linux, but
heck, even figuring out if a given iphone was supported by the
vendor I wanted to use (flat fee being big draw for me - straight
talk) was something that took a while, and I eventually gave up
on, and stayed with my current iphone because reports on whether
it would work with straight talk at the time was unclear.

I guess the device and its software isn't the only part about
people's experiences I'm wondering about, although that's
important, too. I'd like to know what providers and plans are and
how they panned out.

Who knows, maybe someone out there has one and wants to turn it
into a talk for CLUE? ;)

Cheers,

I've been curious about this as well. I haven't
been able to find many resources that had the information I
want. I think the main reason I've had so much trouble
researching this is that Android uses the Linux Kernel. So
everything I search for to find Linux phones gives me results
about android. The best resource I've found is the XDA forum (<a

People have tried installing different distros on phones with
varying levels of success.
and let me know if you find something interesting.
