Good questions.  I don't know.  But if I understand correctly if we had
an umbrella organization providing us tax exempt status, it might not
cost anything and most of the paperwork and maintenance would be done
by someone else.  As far as responsibilities involving donations, I
think it depends, I we went after a grant for example, that grant might
have requirements or restrictions attached to it.  But it opens up the
possibility of IBM or some other benefactor donating an old video
projector and being able to write it off of their taxes.  It might
also make it possible for individuals to make similar tax deductible
donations.  It might be possible for those of us involved with CLUE
to write off the time we spend with the group as a charitable 
deduction.

If you know of an attorney or a tax accountant that can give us more
information that would be great.  I believe Kara will be providing
more information about some of these issues as she continues in this
effort.  She will also be at the CLIQ leading up a LUG BOF.  I just
thought it might be worth supporting or at following to see how it
might benefit us.
