Greetings.
I have published the first draft of the CLUE Admin Design Document. This is
my attempt to write down the requirements of the Admin interface.
Visit http://clue.denver.co.us/development. The 'Admin Interface' page
describes which forms we need. The 'Coding Standards' page is also important.
Please provide any feedback when you have a moment.
I have not researched the PEAR DB class, so I did not include an example.
Feel free to add one to the design documents (in the CVS repository
website/html/development directory). I also did not flesh out the
integration of the dynamic content into the actual CLUE web site. We need
some template research and examples. Volunteers? I believe PEAR has some
template classes.
Finally, I would recommend grabbing the latest PEAR version from the PHP cvs
repository:
$ export CVSROOT=:pserver:cvsread at cvs.php.net:/repository
$ cvs login (password is phpfi)
$ cvs checkout php4/pear
$ cvs logout
Replace the pear directory in your PHP source tree with the one you just
checked out. Then re-configure php (./configure) to write the new PEAR
makefile. Then cd to the pear directory and do a 'make install' this will
update the PEAR library on your development box. The reason I suggest this
update is that version 1.6 of HTML/Form.php has a bug that is fixed in the
latest PEAR source tree (version 1.8). There are also numerous new PEAR
classes that have not been committed to the PHP release branch 4.0.5.
Later,
Jeff

Finally! A clear explanation of The Plan (tm). Does this change our
decision at the CLUE admin meeting?
I have not yet drafted any emails to Elisabeth. I will copy my response to
Miriam to CLUE-Admin.
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
I have been requested to communicate with you and others in CLUE on more of
a technical level regarding marketing Linux to the business community at
large.
We need to define the scope of what we are trying to accomplish (i.e.
educate businesses to the advantages of Linux and thus increasing demand for
technicians with that skillset), who are we trying to reach, who would be
included and role each would would play.
Market research would need to be performed in order to identify who would
be receptive to utilizing Linux for their day to day operations.
The following would be necessary to accomplish this.
1) A survey would need to be created with approximately 20 questions. A
focus group could be created to determine what these questions should be.
One idea would be to list the advantages of Linux over Microsoft, i.e. cost,
where Linux can be used for the same functions as Microsoft and develop the
questions based on that.
2) Create a focus group of business owners/managers and technical persons
who would be interested in the results of that survey. These persons could
serve as sponsors.
- From the results, a marketing plan will be developed.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Elizabeth or me.
Thanks,
Miriam Rodriguez
