Well, short notice will certainly get fewer attendees.  And I'd prefer 
short notice announcements of meetings rather than short notice 
announcements of cancellations.  So perhaps CLUE-Talk is the way to go.

As far as moderating, Mailman will send the moderator notice that 
something is waiting either immediately or daily.  I'm currently able to 
check my mail at work so I could keep up with things (unless I'm away 
from work and too busy).  Not that I'm volunteering, but I'm happy to 
help if this is something worth doing.
